Abstract

The Anthropocene epoch—an era defined by human-driven planetary change—presents
unprecedented challenges for food systems. Agricultural intensification, while feeding a growing
population, has also led to biodiversity loss, soil degradation, and greenhouse gas emissions. The
future of food security depends not only on increasing production but also on building resilience within
ecological and socio-technical systems. This review explores the concept of resilient food systems,
emphasizing the integration of ecological principles, technological innovation, and human wellbeing. It
synthesizes evidence from systems ecology, climate-smart agriculture, agroecology, and digital
transformation to propose a framework for resilience-oriented governance. The paper argues that true
food system resilience requires not merely technological fixes but a holistic transformation—rooted in
sustainability, equity, and adaptability.
